On October 7 and 8, a group of 25 parents of autistic children participated in the training sessions “Positive Approach to Autism“, delivered by Centar za Autizam CZA in the framework of the the Equity and Social Inclusion through Positive Parenting project (ESIPP).
The Solemn City Hall of Osijek, which offered a very comfortable and pleasant atmosphere, was chosen as the venue for delivering the fifth parent training sessions in Croatia. The partners delivering the training were Sanja Aguila Munoz, Ana Ružić, Matea Begić, Ivana Sladić Kljajić from CZA and Dr. Jasmina Stošić from the Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation Sciences, an institution of higher education of the University of Zagreb. Together, they delivered positive strategies based around the following topics: an introduction to autism spectrum conditions, behaviour, the use of visual structure, sensory issues, communication challenges and the building of social skills.
Parents participated actively in the workshop sessions, being very attentive and talkative. For them, the most important things were the experience exchange and the explanation of how to use PECS and visual support systems through practical examples. Parents praised the expertise of the trainers and showed their satisfaction at the end of the sessions.
The next ESIPP parent training sessions in Croatia will be delivered in Split.
